API Terms & Conditions

  1. Definitions
    1. Coinranking: a company with limited liability Coinranking BV, established at Leonard Springerlaa 35, 9727 KB, Groningen, chamber of commerce number: 70788138.
    2. API: our secure and programmatic interface that provides real-time and historical data on cryptocurrency prices, blockchain statistics, market trends, and relevant news, accessible via authenticated requests with standardized data formats and enforced usage limits.
    3. User: any individual, organization, or entity granted access to the Cryptocurrency Information API under the terms of the agreement. The User is responsible for all activity conducted using their Access Key and must ensure that all usage complies with the applicable terms and conditions. This includes employees, contractors, or agents acting on behalf of the authorized entity, provided their use of the API remains within the scope of the agreed-upon license.
    4. Access Key: the credentials provided by Coinranking to the API User upon approval, granting the User access to the API. The User must keep these credentials confidential and is responsible for any unauthorized use of the Access Key.
    5. Rate Limit: The maximum number of API requests the User can make within a specified timeframe (e.g., per minute, per hour, or per day). The specific rate limits depend on the subscription plan purchased and are detailed on our website. These limits are enforced to ensure fair usage and maintain system performance.
    6. Endpoint: A specific URL within the API that allows the User to interact with a particular feature or dataset (e.g., cryptocurrency prices, market trends). 
    7. Usage Data: Data collected by Coinranking regarding the User's interactions with the API, including request frequency, volume, and any usage violations.
    8. Error Response: An error code or message returned by the API when a request cannot be fulfilled due to invalid parameters, usage limits, authentication issues, or system errors.
    9. Authentication: The process by which the API User verifies their identity through the use of the Access Key to ensure secure access to the API.
    10. Request: An individual call or interaction with the API by the User, including queries for data, submissions of data, or any other action permitted under the agreement.
    11. Subscription Plan: The tiered plan purchased by the User, which determines access to specific API features, usage limits, and support levels, as described on Coinranking's website.


  2. Registration and Acceptance 
    1. By registering as an API User, you agree to the API User Terms and commit to complying with all applicable terms and conditions set forth in the agreement.
    2. To qualify as an API User, you must meet the following conditions: 
      1. Complete the registration form accurately and truthfully,
      2. Confirm your acceptance of the API User Terms,
      3. Receive formal acceptance as an API User by Coinranking.
    3. Coinranking will review the submitted registration form and notify the potential API User via email whether the registration has been accepted. Coinranking reserves the right to accept or reject any registration at its sole discretion and for any reason deemed appropriate.
    4. If the registration is accepted, Coinranking will provide the API User with an Access Key, granting access to the API.


  3. Using Coinranking API
    1. The API User is granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the data provided by the Coinranking API in accordance with these API User Terms, solely for the purpose of accessing, analyzing, or displaying cryptocurrency market data, as permitted in the agreement. 
    2. The API User must comply with any guidelines or instructions provided by Coinranking regarding the proper use of the data.
    3. The API User is strictly prohibited from altering, manipulating, or presenting the data in any misleading or harmful manner that could negatively affect the reputation or interests of Coinranking. The API User must also clearly indicate within their application that the data originates from Coinranking.
    4. The API User acknowledges that all intellectual property rights, including but not limited to the data, are and will remain the property of Coinranking. The API User agrees to fully respect the intellectual property rights of Coinranking and any applicable third parties at all times, in accordance with these terms.
    5. If a third party experiences any form of inconvenience due to the API User's use of the API—as determined solely by Coinranking — Coinranking reserves the right to immediately block access to the data and the API without prior notice.
    6. Coinranking determines the Rate Limit based on the User’s subscription plan and reserves the right to adjust this Rate Limit at any time. If the Rate Limit is exceeded, Coinranking may temporarily or permanently block the API User’s access to the API.     7. Upon request from Coinranking, the API User must promptly remove or modify specific data. If a third party raises a complaint about an alleged infringement of their rights, the API User must immediately remove the relevant data and notify Coinranking via the Developer Center's contact email. Coinranking does not guarantee the accuracy of the data provided through the API.
    8. The API User shall fully indemnify Coinranking against any damages, costs, or liabilities arising from the failure to fulfill one or more obligations outlined in this article. 


  4. Permitted Use and Prohibited Use
    1. The User may use the data obtained via the Cryptocurrency Information API solely for the purposes outlined in this agreement. These purposes include, but are not limited to, analyzing market trends, managing portfolios, developing internal applications, and generating reports. The data must be used strictly within the scope of the granted license.
    2. The User is strictly prohibited from:
      1. Using the API for any illegal activities or in violation of applicable laws and regulations;
      2. Abusing the API in any way that could harm its performance or stability, including sending harmful requests, conducting DDOS attacks, or overloading the system;
      3. Using the API to develop applications or services that compete with Coinranking’s offerings, unless expressly permitted by Coinranking;
      4. Attempting to reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise analyze the API's source code, algorithms, or security mechanisms;
      5. Using the data obtained via the API in any way that infringes upon the intellectual property rights of third parties.


  5. Data Usage, Compliance, and Security
    1. The User agrees to comply with all applicable laws and regulations when using the API, including but not limited to data protection and privacy laws.
    2. The data retrieved via the API is primarily for the User’s internal use only, but may be shared publicly. The User is prohibited from reselling the data without Coinranking’s prior written consent. Unauthorized use of the data may result in immediate termination of API access. Reselling is permissible under the following conditions: 
      1. Resellers must obtain a unique API key for each authorized party (e.g. individual, company or organization) to whom the API is provided;
      2. Each API key must be linked exclusively to one authorized party and must not be shared across multiple parties. 
      3. API keys are non-transferable and may only be used by the authorized party to whom they were issued. 
      4. Resellers are responsible for:
        1. ensuring compliance with these provisions by the authorized parties they provide API access;
        2. preventing unauthorized sharing, pooling, or aggregation of API keys or rate limits  
      5. Non-compliance with these terms will result in immediate termination or suspension of API access; and potential liability for any resulting damages or breaches of these terms. Resellers are responsible for ensuring compliance with this provision. Resellers will be held liable for any breaches of these terms. 
      6. The API must not be used for unlawful, unethical, or unauthorized purposes by any party. Failure to comply with these provisions may result in immediate termination of API access.
    3. All data provided via the Cryptocurrency Information API remains the exclusive property of Coinranking. Accessing the data through the API does not transfer any ownership rights. The User is granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the data strictly as outlined in this agreement, for purposes such as internal analysis, research, and application development.
    4. The User must implement appropriate security measures to protect their API credentials and ensure that unauthorized parties do not gain access to the API. The User is responsible for safeguarding access credentials, API keys, and other sensitive information. In the event of a suspected or actual security breach, the User must notify Coinranking immediately and cooperate fully to mitigate any potential damage.
    5. The User agrees to maintain the confidentiality of all access credentials, API keys, and sensitive information provided by Coinranking in connection with the API. This information shall not be disclosed to any third party without Coinranking’s prior written consent. The confidentiality obligations shall survive the termination or expiration of this agreement.
    6. Coinranking reserves the right to monitor the User’s use of the API to ensure compliance with these terms and may conduct audits if necessary to verify proper usage. However, Coinranking cannot monitor where and how the API data is used beyond the number of requests, and has no access to any end-client data from the User’s system.
    7. Any violation of these terms may result in the immediate suspension or termination of the User’s access to the API, without notice or liability to Coinranking.
    8. Coinranking’s Privacy Policy outlines how personal data is collected, used, and protected in connection with the API. By using the API, the User agrees to comply with Coinranking’s Privacy Policy, which can be found on the bottom of the home page of our website The User is also responsible for ensuring that any personal data processed through their use of the API complies with applicable data protection laws.


  6. Costs and Payment
    1. The API services are offered under various subscription models, details of which are available on Coinranking’s website: < https://developers.coinranking.com/api/pricing >. The subscription model selected by the User will determine the applicable fees and Rate Limit. Coinranking reserves the right to update the subscription fees or modify the available models, with prior notice given to the User via email or on Coinranking’s website.
    2. All payments must be made immediately before use, unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.
    3. Payments shall be made via credit card, unless another payment method is agreed upon.
    4. If payment is not made within the stipulated timeframe, the User will be considered in default without further notice, and statutory interest will accrue from the invoice due date.
    5. Any objections to an invoice must be submitted in writing within [number] days of receipt. If no objection is raised within this period, the invoice will be considered correct and final.


  7. Support and Maintenance
    1. The level of support available to the User for the Coinranking API, including response times and types of support, may vary based on the subscription model or service package selected. The specific details of support can be agreed upon separately between the User and Coinranking in a separate agreement.
    2. Coinranking reserves the right to perform maintenance on the API to ensure optimal performance and security. Scheduled maintenance will be communicated to the User in advance via email or through Coinranking’s website. Coinranking may also implement updates, bug fixes, or new features to improve the API. The terms for maintenance and updates can be detailed in a separate agreement between the parties.
    3. The details regarding support levels, maintenance, and updates may be further defined in a separate agreement between the User and Coinranking, if needed.


  8. Termination of Coinranking  API Membership 
    1. The agreement with the User is entered into on a rolling basis, with payments made either monthly or yearly. The User may terminate the agreement at any time without prior notice. Payments are processed via automatic credit card transactions. Failure to make payment will result in the suspension of access to the API until the payment is received.
    2. Notwithstanding the other provisions of this article, the agreement may be terminated immediately and without prior notice by the other party in the event of:
      1. Bankruptcy or suspension of payments by either Party;
      2. Liquidation or cessation of business operations by either Party;
      3. Force majeure that persists for more than ninety (90) days, making it impossible for the obligations under this agreement to be fulfilled.
    3. Upon termination of the agreement, regardless of the reason, the receiving party must, at the request of the terminating party:
      1. Immediately cease access to the API and return or delete all confidential information, documents, and other materials received from the terminating party, or;
      2. Destroy any data derived from the API in a secure and verifiable manner, unless otherwise agreed in writing by the Parties or if legal obligations require a different course of action.
    4. Coinranking reserves the right, at any time and without providing a reason, to terminate the API membership with immediate effect and/or block the Access Key of the API User.


  9. Consequences of Termination of Coinranking API Membership 
    1. If the API membership is terminated for any reason:
      1. The Access Key will be immediately blocked, and the API User will no longer be able to access the API;
      2. The API User is no longer authorized to use the data, API endpoints, or any trademarks, logos, or branding belonging to Coinranking.
    2. The API User is not entitled to any compensation from Coinranking in connection with the termination of the API membership, and the API User hereby waives any right to claim (damage) compensation arising from such termination.


  10. Liability 
    1. The API User is fully responsible and liable for the use of their Access Key, as well as the development, maintenance, operation, and content of their Application.
    2. The API User is solely responsible for the use and confidentiality of their account. The API User must ensure that unauthorized individuals do not gain access to their login credentials and is fully accountable for all activities carried out through their account.
    3. Except in cases of intent or gross negligence by Coinranking, Coinranking is not liable for any property damage or personal injury resulting from the use of the API. Coinranking and any third parties it engages are never liable for indirect damages, including but not limited to consequential damages, loss of profits, or loss of data.
    4. Coinranking’s liability is strictly limited to direct damages, and under no circumstances will the total liability exceed the amount of fees paid by the API User in the past 12 months.


  11. Miscellaneous 
    1. The API User shall never present themselves as an agent or representative of Coinranking and shall not make any commitments or enter into obligations on behalf of Coinranking. The API User shall fully indemnify Coinranking for any damages and/or costs arising from non-compliance with this provision.
    2. The API User is not entitled to transfer, assign, or sublicense any part of their API membership to a third party without the prior written consent of Coinranking.
    3. Coinranking reserves the right to amend the API User Terms and Conditions at any time. The API User will be informed of such changes via email or through the Developer Center. If the modified terms are unacceptable to the API User, they have the right to terminate their API membership. If the API User does not terminate the membership, they are deemed to have accepted the revised terms.
    4. If any provision of these API User Terms is found to be in conflict with applicable law, that provision shall be amended to comply with the law while maintaining the intent of the original provision.


  12. Applicable Law and Competent Court
    1. These API User Terms and the API membership are governed exclusively by Dutch law. Any disputes arising from or related to these terms shall be submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands.
